-Boost Juice-

No Boost Makes Big Roost
The Question - Some of the guys at the drags pull off the boost bottle (from their Banshee's) and just plug it up. What's the deal? What will this help and/or hurt. They say that all the mix goes to the cylinder and not the bottle.
The Response - That's the idea - since the useful range of the device is limited by its transfer tube, it'll be out of tube range before the clutch plates hook up. Give the bottle a feed tube the same size as the carb and you might get it to become effective again - at that kind of RPM.

Some short distance drag racers are running their motors with the reeds removed too. Actually not just the reeds, they have hollowed out the entire cage. It looks like it's there from the outside, but there's nothing there on there inside. The (oversized) carburetor is feeding into a huge intake area that's larger than any piston port engine ever had. A little bit of custom work with plastic and epoxy and those massive cages become streamlined piston port feeding grounds.

Reeds were introduced into 2 strokes motocross bikes to broaden the power range and soften the hit when the power came on the pipe. They always knew reeds introduced a restriction to the intake pipe. There were few problems with the total power output of the piston port engine for certain types of uses - especially once they became liquid cooled. High output piston port engines hit the power suddenly and with great vengeance.

* Please note that this modification requires running different pistons. There's a tremendous amount of work to do to the cylinder including using epoxy and plastics or welding.
