-Sand Tires-
Slippery Traction; Lose Patience, Action
The Question - I am new to sand dune riding. Do you have any recommendations for which sand tires to buy? V- paddles? Molded rubber? Vulcanized?
- The Response - Rubber molded paddle tires are
very durable, but don't offer much more traction than the
stock non-paddles - so I suggest getting a set of the
vulcanized paddles - The Edge - at least. They'll get
better traction than the Sand Skates - which are rubber
molded. The angled paddles (Edge or Skates) give up
traction everywhere because of their design.
You'll gain the most traction by switching to a vulcanized strait paddle tire like the Hauler. Don't let the ads fool you - you can't turn a quad very well with ANY kind of paddle tire on - so if you're getting the V-paddles to help you turn... forget it. To turn a quad, let off the gas first. Haulers are a high performance tire design. A design you'll probably not outgrow. They are designed to push you forward with maximum thrust. If you want to have fewer problems in sand - get the best sand tires. If your bike is stock or close to it, get the 8 paddle tires. If your motor is modified, you may want to get the 9 or 10 paddle version.
