Plated Bores
One of the reasons I like plated bores is that they work well with low tension rings and that translates into reduced friction which translates into faster acceleration. Put a late model CR250 engine on the bench, remove the flywheel and drive gear to the clutch and give the crankshaft a spin. Do the same with a stock TRX engine. When I did this I noticed the CR250 crank spins several times before coming to a rest - "thump, thump, thump, thump, thump, thump, thump." The iron bore TRX crank spins about a third as many times - "thump, thump." That's all it took to have me alter my thinking.
